Le mot de Rudolf Slavicek :
Dear Colleagues, Summer School 2008 at Danube University Austria already obtained a traditional attribute after three years of open exchange of thoughts within an international flair. These unbiased controversies, the “Pros and Cons” in science are the key issues of this annual summer school 2008. As always, the conference lasts for seven days. A chairperson will introduce the specific topic of the day ; two invited speakers will highlight the Pros and the Cons, respectively. I indicated my preferences of the topics for “Pro and Cons” in this folder, as well as the list of desired speakers. “Pro and Cons” have to be supported by a substantiated literature review, and a brief summary of the cited literature will be part of the handout for all participants.
“Pros and Cons” – Topics
Reference position versus Myo-Centric (comfort position) During diagnostics During initial therapy During definitive therapy Extraction in orthodontic treatment : indication versus contraindication Aplasia : Closing versus Opening of the gap Occlusal concepts : Canine guidance versus alternative concepts Posture and masticatory organ : cranio-osteopathy versus myopathy Strategies in Periodontitis : defense versus planned extraction for bone preservation TM joint dislocation : reduction versus resignation
Speakers are invited to present also own research projects as in the same traditional manner of previous summer schools. Master thesis, research projects, case reports, literature reviews, Meta-analysis and posters are welcomed. Therefore, this letter is meant to be a “call for papers”.
Human sleep will be a particular topic of this year’s summer school. I really do hope to win one of the world wide leading experts in sleep research for this event. The discussion focused on the so called Para- functions - bruxing and clenching - seems to be essential and most important.
The summer school lasts for seven days (August 1st till August 7th), registration is open from July 31st. A.E.R.S. Agency for Education, Research and Science, Reifgasse 13 / 2 /4, A-3500 Krems, Austria is the organizer of the event at Danube University Krems, Dr. Karl Dorrekstraße 30 A-3500 Krems. The official language of the summer school 2008 is English. € 1000, — will be charged for the total event.
